Use your mess for success

This is a continuous project I intend to develop with several posts, with a Guru speech style approach.

Lots of self-help and personal development programs out there focus on helping people organize to be more productive. The classic GTD method (Getting Things Done)focuses on crunching your life into To-Do lists and creates handfuls of methods to make organizing complex and repulsive.
I have tried it, and as many, I experienced an epic fail.

You have your way of handling things, and you have your habits. Changing takes a lot of efforts, and I am not amongst those who can put in tremendous efforts without having immediate payoffs. I just see neverending tasks, creating neverending work.

Inspired by The Path of Least Resistence, a very helpful and thick book, I would like to put several thoughts on how you can use your mess for success.

The main principle would be to use your natural instincts and make them work for you. Instead of trying to change WHO you are, you will make slight changes in your environment to drastically change your productivity. Things should be easy, as you don't need to change!

How can changes happen, if you don't have to change?
Well knowing yourself will be the biggest step of all.
You will be able to work several scenarios in your mind to ensure that the global result will be achieved with the minimum real effort.

And the less effort you spend organizing your environment, the more effort you can spend on productivity.

But a lot more about that later.

Why do I blog?

Address simple questions with multiple answers - that's the way of the consultant.

So what's the point of all that?

Put my thoughts somewhere
When I have thoughts going on about some subjects, it is a real effort to formalize everything.
Making bullet points and examples. Give structure. Make some research.
And create meaning.
Finally in aout 20 minutes of work, the post is ready, and I had to dig into my message. And it's out there.

Fame?
.This type of blog does not explore a specific niche and does not aim for traffic. Although it would be nice. I'm just happy my friends read it.

Web Presence?
I want to be the most famous "Vinh LY" on google.

Discover more about what I like.
Some posts require extensive research, and everytime, I am amazed about what we can find on the internet... Sometimes, I stumble on weird topics like "competitive eating" or other stuff. Structuring all that helps me remember it better.

YOU
You might not know me, I might not know you.
But we share common interests. Aircraft, marketing, robots, entrepreneurship, algorithms...
And maybe you have an idea, or anything we can work together.
Just mail me.

Play asian style for success in bowling and table tennis

Every time you start a new sport, you will have to learn the basics.

Most of the classic strokes will be taught, and teachers will make sure that you accomplish the moves with the perfect and already proven method.

In bowling, the standard move is the hook.
With a heavy ball, you give a curved trajectory on the oiled part of the track.
Because the last part of the track is dry, the ball will suddenly accelerate and have a very good angle and speed to optimize the probability of having a strike.
The heavier the ball, the better.

That was until Taiwanese Tseng Tsu Fen with the Spinner.
In Asia, because of the lesser quality of the tracks, the hooks were difficult to realize.
Asians came up with another move called the spinner, the helicopter or the UFO.
With a straight path, minimizing track interference, and maximum rotation, the ball would come with high rotation and hit the pins, sending them flying in all directions.

With this highly unorthodox asian style of play, Tseng Tsu Fen became world bowling champion. This style especially fits women, seeing that you need a lighter ball.

That's how different conditions enabled more creativity in the gameplay.

The last example relates to table tennis.
You all know the orthodox way of holding a ping pong pad.
Chinese have the penhold handle. They hold the pad upside down, as if they had a pen.

This allows them to mode the wrist more freely and block and push easier with the backhand. It is a very offensive game method, but makes the backhand quite weak.

But no need to say that many world champions are chinese. It is quite surprizing when they are not.

Conclusion ?

Be creative, dammit.

Robots. We're getting there...

In 2010, 1/3 of the US Air Force will be unmanned.
In 2015 the same ratio will apply to land warfare vehicles.

Why would you send a person out there, when you know that army is only a question of resources and strategy ?
I think Japan will be very well prepared for that. Great Robotic industries, over trained gamers... What's the difference between that and Starcraft?

They invest in Robots. And that's frightening as well.

We're getting there. I'd buy one. I need someone to clean the dishes.

A grasp of a possible future.

Virtual worlds.
Everyone will be plugged in and live a perfect life like Matrix.

Clones
If one organ dysfunctions, it will be replaced by the one of a clone who's been raised for you.

Computers rule.
Face it, they'll be smarter than you.

Space conquest.
Useless. Nobody needs that. We're all plugged in. We use cold fusion for anything we need.

Disconnected.
Our happiness comes to the price of living in different virtual worlds. We can't be all happy at the same time. We need to see people in less fortunate conditions to enjoy our situation. All the environment will be tailored to provide the right amount of everything.

Unique.
We'll all be that unique person. We will all be living that same scripted scenario. Everyone will be living that same life, with enough obstacles and miracles to enjoy maximum happiness. Why rewrite a scenario that's already perfect? We are all Vinh Ly's.

Under control.
Computers are programmed to help us enjoy maximum happiness. That's why everything will be designed for that. Making people believe.

One type of body.
Why would you keep all the diversity in mankind? The computers have rationalized and kept only one. Only one genetical code, reproduced again and again. Easier for maintenance and better for scenario implementing.

What more is there to expect?
Nothing. Because, everything would finally be under control.
